Growing through participation
Our Sport
Sport at nelspruit Primary
At Nelspruit Primary School, we believe in developing well-rounded learners through active participation in sport and cultural activities. Our wide range of seasonal programmes fosters teamwork, discipline, creativity, and personal growth — encouraging every child to discover their strengths, build confidence, and contribute with pride.
Sports & Culture Policy
Athletics teaches self-discipline, teamwork, and leadership — qualities that prepare learners for success beyond the classroom. NPS has a proud tradition of athletic excellence, including world record holder Benji Richardson. We encourage every learner to strive for their personal best while representing the school with pride.
At Nelspruit Primary, we nurture every boy’s love for the game by providing consistent, high-quality coaching. Our goal is to create a space where players enjoy the sport, learn teamwork, and develop into confident, competitive athletes.
Netball plays a meaningful role in the school’s culture, instilling team spirit, discipline, and social confidence in girls from U/7 to U/13. It improves fitness and builds a sense of belonging. “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller
Swimming is both a vital life skill and a platform for competitive growth. We help each child become safe, confident in the water, and capable of swimming for life. Team selections are made from the most dedicated and skilled swimmers.
Cricket builds both individual focus and team collaboration. Nelspruit Primary has produced the most provincial players in the region (2012–2019) and competes in the Super League — a proud reflection of our strong cricketing culture.
Girls’ hockey at NPS inspires leadership, unity, and personal growth. Our coaching philosophy prioritises sportsmanship and teamwork, empowering U/7 to U/13 players to reach their potential through excellence and example.
Our tennis programme offers a developmental, individual-focused approach that grows with each child. From mini tennis to full-court play, learners are guided to enjoy the game whether they pursue it socially or competitively.
Cross country challenges learners across all grades to push their limits in long-distance, off-road running. Learners are supported at every event by our fit and committed coaching staff, promoting grit and resilience throughout the year.
Soccer at Nelspruit Primary is open to boys and girls from Grade 1–7, with junior and senior teams. Practices focus on ball control, passing, positioning, and teamwork, building confidence and fitness along the way. Learners compete in inter-school fixtures and local tournaments, with coaches emphasising discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship. All skill levels are welcome.
