founding history

Since its founding in 1966, and with the dedication of the community, Nelspruit Primary has grown into a school recognized for its excellence. In 1965 Mr Moerdyk submitted the plans for the school which was built by Mr A Slingerland and his team. This included the buildings and sports fields. The total cost of the project amounted to R43 000.

On 17 January 1966, Mr Alberts (Acting Principal) held the first assembly. The school had 305 pupils and 12 staff members. Reverend Lea and Reverend Skinner conducted a founders day service on 18 January 1966. The school grew from strength to strength and became a Model C school in 1990 – allowing the school to embrace diversity. Today the school is widely respected for its’ vibrant, diverse ethos and remains at the forefront of innovation, academic and sporting excellence.
